Goodnight beautiful day.

A nightly blessing.

Curled up:: heart cracked wide open receiving the blessings that can now enter.

Feeling:: the slight shift of weather, a cool breeze blowing against the thoughts of sweaters wrapped around my body.

Soft gaze:: searching for the color, the gratitude of this body.

Wanting:: stillness, softness, connection from heart to heart to heart to heart to heart to heart to heart...

Reflecting:: on how one moment, one message can change everything.

"Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth." -Buddha

Beautiful Faces. Magical Places.

I am eager for the lists that make their way out on sleepy Friday mornings. Today I am a having a hard time being a mama (these weeks happen), feet in the sand, french press coffee and soaking up hearing my three year old say 'I love you' again kind of mama.

These are my pay-it-forward lists.

Few online spaces feel as cozy and loving as this one. Being there was a joy.

Her dogs are gorgeous and I love that she is in my city. Can't wait for our first date. xo

This woman brought me to tears. I simply love her and as I'm working through some tough stuff on my own end, it feels so good to be seen.

I ordered another shirt because I feel cozy and gorgeous in them. When you find that, treasure it.

One of my beautiful joy up tribe women posted this for me to see. Love.

Catching Prayers

I had a couple of tough days, focused on the negatives that were showing up in the tiniest of ways while the positive joy was like a light show around me. All I could feel was the weight of the tiny, because that is where my focus was.

I sent out a prayer for calm, for love, for presence.

In that prayer I pulled all of those things into my reality, I shifted. I stepped back into the flow, I sat down and enjoyed the light show.

And while that sounds beautiful, it is hard as hell to do sometimes. That is why we journey. We practice.

We show up for each other, to catch our prayers in love and blow them out as blessings into the wind together.

***

A few requests to join the journey each day, so I've kept the registration open for a bit. If you sign up now, you'll have links to each of the previous days letters in your morning letter. Take your time, go at your own pace, dig into the soulwork.

What will you choose?

Joy is a sparkle inside. It tickles, it tingles, it plays. It is like the breeze blowing through your hair, and the sun shining down on you. It is dancing or a calm breath.

Joy can live inside of you, at all times. It is your option. Joy draws others to you, they are attracted to your sparkle. Joy does not mean you do not feel sadness or fear or pain or disappointment. Joy means that you feel extra, joy cushions you through the tough times.
It's time. For whatever you want. How are you going to get there?

By choosing joy.

The Universe is responding, but it takes doing the work and feeling the stuff and moving into the joy. I want you to set an intention. Saying I want more joy is beautiful, but we need to be specific.

We need to tell the Universe we know exactly what we are going for.

First email went out this morning, you can continue to sign up throughout the week and then we will be closing up the sign ups. All previous emails will be archived and available to you.

The tribe gathered is beyond my wildest expectations of women to have the honor of guiding.

What will you choose?

Behind the Scenes of Not Knowing

Munching cookies and strawberries the other night with this beauty I found myself talking about the importance of not knowing. Not knowing that kale is not just a garnish on the side of a plate, you can eat it. Not knowing how to re-size a picture or publish a post.

Not knowing how to use your voice, stuck.

Not knowing how to take your dreams and turn them into a business. That jittery, exciting time full of fear and magical potential.

And remembering all the things that once we didn't know.

The women of The Joy Up Tribe Alumni Group are making my heart soar right now. They are offering to sponsor other women in the tribe who don't have $45 to join the program. I'll tell you more about this as I tell you about not knowing and then knowing, really knowing.

A year ago the joy up was born. It was an idea that over a few months went from simply a name into a program that would bring over 200 women together. While it wasn't for everyone, it was available to any woman. I was positioning my business to go from Health Coaching into Holistic Life and Business Coaching and I wanted to grow my tribe.

Big dreams are great, but if you don't take the actions to support them, you still only have dreams.

I found it really hard to tag a price on a program about joy. The fears too, maybe no one will resonate with it, maybe this is a silly idea.

In my heart, I knew that not knowing was where I needed to be. Just like learning to move kale from garnish to salad, a world was opening up to me. A large community of women, taking my programs from 30 or so into the hundreds. I was ready to do the work.

The Joy Up started as 10 days, pay-what-you-can. A core group of women formed around the soulwork and my life hit crazy. I had no idea what holding the energy of that many women would be like. I was not prepared for emails telling me that their lives had changed because of 10 days. I knew I could explain joy and why we must choose it, even in the face of sadness or lack, but I had no idea.

I couldn't eat. I cried a lot. (I did this in quiet mostly because while you can share this a year later once you've learned to hold that kind of energy, you can't talk about it while you are in it.)

We think that those little tastes of growth and success will taste sweet, but usually they are more like unsweetened dark chocolate. You know somewhere inside of it all you like the taste, but don't know how to get to it. My husband and I had the 'opportunity' in all of the emotion to work on our stuff.

Each time The Joy Up program ran after that, I followed my intuition. I kept it pay-what-feels-good, built my tribe even more and the emails from the tribe became more intense. From making decisions to leave abusive marriages to pursuing a new career. All on the basis of 'Joy is a Choice.'

Letters would come in the mail with feathers falling out of them, I have now had about 6 or 7 of these. These women who knew how much I loved feathers were forming a community based on joy and love and support.

During one of the program runs I received $100 from a woman in the tribe. I sent her an email that told her she took my breath away, and asked if she meant to send that? She replied, "Now you know how I feel each morning with your Joy Up emails."

A sweet online friend sent $200 as her contribution to the program and my work. Knowing.

The year of building this community was beyond amazing. The first Joy Up was shared over 600 times on social media. It was humbling and intense.

The Joy Up continues after the (now) 30 days. A private community on FB allows women to stay connected and I pop in and out as I need to. A true community inside of a somewhat crazy online world.

After a year I wasn't sure what to do with this program. Do I turn it into an ebook, offer something new and different, keep going? Could I keep creating new material or do I re-purpose? I let my intuition play around and talking with husband he said, "I just don't think it is over yet."

While I agreed I knew that I would need to allow it to evolve.

I needed to finally price it, close the tribe a bit in numbers while increasing its value, and still allow women who wanted access a way to do so regardless of their financial situation. There have been times in my life when $45 meant feeding my family or buying gas. I also really wanted women to value this work they were doing and invest in themselves. The Joy Up is about changing your life, sparkling with the butterflies and stepping into abundance.

We have watched women who started the program go from broke to abundant. Who are now sponsoring other women to join.

The program this time is priced with an option to join with a soul-sister. Many women are inviting their best friends or sisters to journey with them.

I wrote a little note on the tribe's alumni page. There are scholarships available if you are not able to afford the program but wish to continue on the journey with us.

From then on women in the tribe have been asking me about sponsoring a soul-sister on the journey. The outpouring has been incredible. We have had about 10 women sponsored and more sponsors waiting to help.

There is all sorts of magic inside the not knowing if we trust enough to allow ourselves to know.

Tattoos Kind of Like Babies

Three babies. Maybe three tattoos. We'll see. I've been playing around with a sharpie until I find just the right one.

I have three ideas in mind. They are permanent, yes. So are my babies, and I like them that way.

Here is a secret. I've tended to hide behind a fear of judgement. When my life rather abruptly looked me in the face a few years ago and I had to learn trust and faith, I got my nose pierced. I felt so brave and as though I was finally starting to become myself.

I had always wanted my nose pierced. Always.

I made a decision for myself without needing approval or being afraid of what anyone would say or think. That decision marked time for me. When I see my nose ring I think about that year of transformation which has led me to who I am now.

Last year was all about joy. I have been taking a journey through ritual, trust and magic and all along feathers have followed my journey. One of our beautiful joy up tribe members even sent me an envelope stuffed with feathers. I wore feather earrings, feathers in my hair. My mantra was I am love. My highly sensitive self is all about sharing that love and creating and working from a place of love.

So feathers and love and anchors and birds are visions dancing in my head. (You can go peek at my Pinterest board of Inspired Tats!) Maybe obvious, perhaps discreetly placed. Time will tell. No impulsive tattoos for me, I've been thinking and planning for a long time.

Each year I feel like I have stepped into my own skin that much more.

Wanna talk tattoos or the marking of time?

P.S. Surrender has begun with prep week, there is still time to join us! Would love to move through time with you.

What is beautiful through your eyes?

Growing, birthing, and then watching my child bloom into an amazing little girl.  That's beauty to me.  Watching as my belly grew over 9 months, feeling her kicks and watching her squirm.  What joy.  Finding a power I never knew I had as I helped her make her transition from the darkness and comfort of my womb, out into the world so new.  Watching her yesterday, now 2, so eager to run and play with the ocean waves, as if they beckoned her to a place she already knows.  She is my beauty. ~ Xandra

The heart's ability to hurt and heal,
To forget and love,
To remember and trust,
To grow and stretch in places unknown and at once feel at home. ~ Stephanie

Beauty is the stillness that comes after walking through a storm. That's where the quiet wisdom emerges. ~ Britta

Willow trees... I can't explain it, but I can stop and stare at a willow tree for hours.~ Nicole

My 12 year old daughter who shares her secrets with me, for I know that all too soon I might no longer be the confidante of choice
My 92 year old grandmother, afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease, who showed me what pure, true, unconditional love looked like
Our aging dog who looks at me with such love and adoration in her eyes
My tribe of women
True and honest forgiveness
A heart full of gratitude
My ability to love deeply and really mean it ... Big, huge love I like to call it
Thunderstorms
Our garden, beginning to tease us with luscious, not quite ripe enough to pick fruit
The perfect green smoothie ~ Jenny.

For those of you who haven't met Jenny yet, she has graciously been helping me with the back end of my business. She takes care of my week, keeps me settled and calm and does a whole lot of busy work. If you've been in my tribe for a while, you already know and love this woman. She is beauty.

Simplicity of Ritual - Mama's Tea

When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things.

~ Muriel Barbery

Each night I have a ritual of lighting candles just before it gets dark. I place them around the house, one near the lego playing and one in a window sill, a couple near the Buddha head.

This ritual is a signal for our family that we are settling down, that crazy jumping around time is over, meals are served and cleaned up.

On the nights I forget I feel unsettled and the kids soak up my energy. We all feel rushed and as though our rhythm has no gentle transitions. When I fall out of the rhythm I know my path back in. I clean the kitchen, top to bottom. I make a pot of broth and a beautiful soup. I set the table with a little flower and a pitcher of cold water. Then I light my candles.

I sit with Lucas as he falls asleep snuggled under his 'cozy' and head resting on his favorite bird pillow. After he drifts off I fill the electric kettle with cold water and wait for it to click, signalling it is time to pour over my tea bag. Usually I have red raspberry leaf or nettle. Every now and then I indulge in a decaf black tea with honey and milk.

This tea, this ritual, signals to my body that my work of mama has come to rest for the night and I may now go snuggle up with Patrick and share some bits of our days or watch one of our favorite shows together.

This ritual of my nightly tea is like closing the curtains to the day. A deep exhale that stillness has come. I must remind myself to hold it and sip it hot, being present to now.

Explore ritual as transition. Where are your transitions rough and leaving you feeling a bit lost or frazzled? Is there one simple gesture that you can choose to create rhythm inside of your transitions?

(From The April Joy Up)

What does mommy do anyway?

I found this on my desktop sticky note. Clearly someone is paying attention to what is going on in this beautiful business I am creating. (I've already hired her to work for me in 5 years!)

Once there was a woman. She had a online buisness. But,she saw that she could not type anymore. She was not happy.

She went to Mr.Typen. She asked for help. Mr.Typen agreed to help. He told her to sing the ABCs. So,she did. It did not help.

She then went to Mrs.Hula. She asked for her to help. So,Mrs.Hula told her to say la la la. She did. It did not help.

So,she went to Mrs.Marcotti, her last hope. Mrs.Marcotti told her to take a deep breath and calm down. Then, she told her to do some soulwork with her.

After about 3 months, Mrs.Marcotti did a joy up. The woman(Miss.Suzy) joined. She learned alot. So, Mrs.Suzy did a really good buisness. The buisness was artsy stuff.   THE END

Beautiful Faces. Magical Places.

I am eager for the lists that make their way out on sleepy Friday mornings. Today I am a mug of decaf green tea followed by a kombucha green juice followed by making breakfasts, lunches, driving kids to school, coming home and having breakfast with my littlest (today we have my middle one home too) and then both of us all of us getting some screen time to chill out kind of mama.

These are my pay-it-forward lists.

We love chopsticks. They slow you down, make a huge mess of noodles on the table as the kids slurp and they are just so freaking pretty in a jar or mug. The kids use these and I use these (apparently sold out at the moment).

While I'm not ready, yet, to shave my head, women are freeing themselves from the notion that their hair is their beauty. Ozma has some serious superpowers of bravery and grace.

"When you explore you get more imagination then you already have." This video picks me up when I am down, it reminds me that each moment is divine joy, a gift, no matter what I am feeling or learning or expanding into.

Faith, Intuition and Nutrition, this is the power trio. As we start to learn how to explore these in our own worlds magic will start to happen. Thank you Heather.

Abundance is not the amount of money in your bank or pocket, it is your feelings, your thoughts, your practice of being in the now joyfully. This was a lovely look at how courage plays a deep role in abundance.

I am certain this TED Talk will make all Friday lists because this woman is a beautiful story teller/researcher.

I acknowledge that my whole life I will be in a relationship with my belly. I used to think if it was flat, that suddenly my life would shift radically. What I've learned is that when I stopped fighting so hard I could find love in the most unlikely of places. Melissa takes on this emotional subject, of developing our hara.

Spring Tribe has arrived, Alicia wrote on her dream list for 2012 to be included in the tribe. I swoon over manifesting.

Honored to be visiting::

The Joy UP starts in one week. Have you joined us?

Voices from the tribe ~ Jenny

A love note to The Joy UP from beautiful and loving Jenny who is a constant voice of hope and inspiration in our tribe. If you need someone to hold space, light a candle or send a blessing, Jenny will probably have done so before you even asked. Meet Jenny and the 100 other women in the tribe after signing up for the joy up, which is always pay-what-feels-good.

Please welcome a beautiful voice from the tribe and take a moment to leave a comment down below. It is such a brave thing to share your voice.

I had just finished a cleanse with a someone I had met on Facebook. She happened to post a link to something called a Joy Up. I followed the link, curious. I was in a scary, depressed, anxious place, being in the middle of a divorce from my husband of 15 years, trying to co-parent in healthy way with someone that I could barely look in the face at times, working full time on the night shift, seeing money sift through my fingers like grains of sand and still wondering how I was going to pay this bill or that bill on time.

So back to the link … On the video appeared this radiant pixie with sparkling eyes asking me for 10 days. Can you increase the amount of joy in your life in just 10 days? That was her question. Her challenge. I told myself that I had nothing to lose, and bless her, it was pay what you can, so I signed up.

For some reason at that time in my life, everything seemed to overwhelm me. I know what you’re thinking … How could a simple e-mail once a day for 10 days be overwhelming? Dunno, but it was. I had joined the Facebook group associated with the Joy Up and was meeting some amazing, out of this world, salve to my soul women, especially that little pixie, Hannah!

Yet 6 or 7 days in, it was nagging me that I had yet to read the any of the e-mails or watch any of the videos that Hannah had put her heart and soul into. So I took a couple of hours to myself, went to a coffee shop and caught up. I watched a couple of the videos twice, three times, with tears rolling down my face.

Later, when I confessed to the group how I had gotten behind in the e-mails and what I had done, I was met with love, acceptance, and many echoes of “that’s the way you were meant to do it”, even from Hannah. Wow.

I have never had many friends and some of the ones I did have scattered after my divorce. Just were not there. One was so vocal in her opposition about her deep conviction that I was doing the wrong thing in divorcing my husband and would be sorry later for the damage I was doing to my child. I had the sense a few didn’t know who they “belonged to” – me or him. And a few are still around as long as we don’t discuss the divorce.

When I began to open my heart and soul to these beautiful women in what I have come to call my tribe I realized that such judgment and condemnation for my actions and for me, for that matter, was not universal. It was so incredibly healing. I have done my fair share of seeking out and needing support from the group and as I type this, tears of gratitude are slipping down my cheek remembering so many encouraging words and messages sent my way. But it goes both ways. I would do anything in my physical power for ANY woman in this group.

It seems like almost every day someone in the tribe comes to mind, and I know they must be on my mind for a reason. So I hold them in my heart for the day.

I am living proof that you can increase the amount of joy in your life in just 10 days and proof that JOY can find a home in your heart and not just be a visitor, no matter what your circumstance may be. Thank you, Hannah.

Jenny Parrenin is proud to be the mama to Amelia Grace, the most exquisite, loving, and beautiful human being that I know.  I work nights in an urban hospital-based blood bank and having just turned 40, welcome this new decade with open arms.  I can’t wait to see what the future holds.  I know it is going to be good!

Love for.

As I create from the heart, I often feel stuck and afraid.

Blank pages stare at me, my throat tight. I am resisting. I am pushing against what will soon flow through me.

This moment is so real, so ripe, often I cry. My love asks me each day, "What is wrong?"

Where I am is not wrong, it is where I am, words don't express its depth.

Extra tea, extra time, stillness and flow. The flow of the truth of my now-ness.

It will change. I will let go. Work from the heart has a process that asks for forgiveness, gentle moments.

I ask myself, what do I need to say, now? The shift comes, words show up. Pictures form. Time expands. It is rarely what I imagine it will be after it twists around and plays outside of my resistance.

This process is an emotional one, asking of so much love. Love for our inner creator. Love for the parts of us that will not be perfect.

Love for the overwhelm that is now. Love for the breath that will release it. Love for the goosebumps. Love for the belly of nerves. Love for the need to slow down without stopping.

Love for the moment.

Love for inspiration showing up, living inside.

Love for the feeling of new.

Love for the joy.

Love for the tenderness that is ours to give and receive, as one.

The ABC’s of Self-Love: J is for Joy

This Blog Crawl of Self-Love is hosted by Molly Mahar of Stratejoy. She is a glowing mama to be who believes in the transformational power of truly adoring ourselves. I happen to adore her and am lingering in the joy of being part of the fun! Find out more about The ABC’s of Self Love Blog Crawl + Treasure Hunt here.

Hello gorgeous,

I hear you are on a treasure hunt and today you and I get to play with a word that lights up the soul. Joy, gorgeous, that sassy 3 letter word that guides us into possibility.

Joy is a sparkle inside. It tickles, it tingles, it plays. It is like the breeze blowing through your hair, and the sun shining down on you.

It is dancing or a calm breath.

Joy is adapting, flowing, allowing.

It is found after a long cry or inside of releasing.

Joy is the feather you watch fall from the sky, speckled and blue.

Joy wants you to see her depth and understand that she is always wanting to be with you. Joy believes in you and will lift you up when you start to make a practice of rituals that feed your spirit.

By choosing.

Really that simple? Oh yes, darling, it is.

The Universe is responding, but it takes doing the work and feeling the stuff and choosing to move into the joy.

Learning to sparkle.

This shift into joy isn’t a declaration that we will never be sad or pissed off again. It is a message to the wondrous Universe that we know what we want. The Universe feels your passion for more joy and shoots it back at you with a crystal-clear sparkle. Sort of sha-zam like or fairy dust or bad-ass tattoo on the spirit.

Be clear. Surprise yourself. Take a chance. Dream big. Love you.

Don’t know what you want? Great, start there. Think about what you don’t want and let it be the mirror you look into to see what is really inside of you. I love a good don’t-know, so many surprises lie inside. Joy is waiting just there for you.

Let the thoughts of what you don’t want lead your way to the thought that feels better, and then as quickly as you can, grab it, look at it, play with it a bit. You can do this, this is the path to the gorgeous, joyful life.

You want it to be a more difficult journey, and you’ll try to make it that way. I know. We all do that. We get used to focusing on the things that feel worse, on our frustrations or the ways in which we’ve screwed up or been wronged. Few sparkles are found in that world.

Let’s try another path. You gorgeous, you get to spin around and in this very moment make a decision that you are going to choose joy. Then you get to watch joys appear abundantly in your every day, simple moments.

Joy is so beautiful inside of simple pleasures.

You are worth this. I am too.

Claiming our joy.
Calming our minds.
Sizzling in our passions.

Jumping up and waving our arms to wake up our tired bodies.
Smooching our loves when the moment feels so right. Or when they need us most.
Clearing the corners of our homes, filling our lives with beauty.

This is the butterflies fluttering on your head life.

Possibility.
Choice.
Love.
Joy.

5 Rituals to Feed Your Spirit and Cultivate Joy

  1. Start each day with a large glass of lemon water. It is liver-loving, cleansing-detoxifying, nightly-fast-breaking and just pure body loving.

  2. Make your bed, it should look and feel beautiful to you. Start with clean sheets and fluff your pillows each day, to clear space and create a sanctuary for rest and supporting your sleep. This is your number one sacred space.

  3. Do a 5 minute meditation each and every day. This is one of the most important steps. You'll be tempted to skip it. Don't. This is the sparkle maker.

  4. Quickly pick up the house before starting any projects or making any decisions. A clear space is a clear mind. A clear mind allows for more joy. More joy is what we are after.

  5. Move your body: a dance, a walk or other creative movements! Just move baby. Dancing strongly encouraged.

Feeling the love? xo

The Truth

When I watched Martha Beck on one of Oprah's webcasts a few weeks ago, she said what I didn't want to hear.

Her story was of deciding to tell the truth for one year. It didn't matter how big or small the truth, she would tell it. She knew she would lose friends, and she did. Almost all of them. But it was a time that she was able to reinvent herself to be truly her. Fully living as a connected beautiful spirit who no longer lived in the fear of what to say, because truth was always the answer. (I embellished those last few statements, but I'm sure she would agree!)

I want this. As a coach I feel the freedom to allow truth to pass through me gently, guiding the journey into expansion and joy.

As a person, a woman with fears of people not liking her, I lock up, I hold the truth in until it has built up. This is my pattern. I'm ready to break it.

The risk in this? People might not like me. I have faith that I have surrounded myself with those who actually would like to hear more of my truth, as that means they are able to have more of me, not the lessened, silent version, stuffing the truths deep down. And the fear inside the fear, if I do this, if I truly come forth, will my light shine and will the ways in which I wish to serve open up? Will the richness of joy and magic that I wish to live my life with open before me?

The answer is waiting for all of us in 2012. I am planning for the magic. Planning with my energy, my choices, my rituals, my words, my thoughts. Planning for my yes. When I close my eyes, it is already there. I've been spending time seeing it and feeling it for the last few months.

Will you announce your fear? On this last day of what many are describing as a transitional year, the year that started to align them for deeper truths and connections --will you announce what you are scared of?

I trust that the truth is waiting just inside of me. Always there, just waiting for me to be ready.

Trust with your whole being that the truth of what your fear wants for you, is waiting just inside of you.

Ready to be announced and claimed.

My first step into 2012 is The Making Space Cleanse where we will be clearing out clutter and bringing in beauty. Dress accordingly, this is all about discovering our style as we make space --in our homes, our spirits, our food, our thoughts, our joys.

The Wings of Gratitude

I do not have a must-do practice of gratitude. My gratitude has wings. It flies around me and flutters in my path. There are days when my field, my spirit is filled with the wings of gratitude. There are moments when I am lost in the chaos of un-centeredness and wings do not appear.

My gratitude has wings as it flows into my life when I am present, open and truthful. It flutters out the moment I yell without control or hold in tightly the honesty of my voice. And that happens. Yes. That is my lesson, flipped into my gift to share, of being in this moment. Of being honest. And the wings will flutter, they always let me know. Their silence is a sadness and stillness, a time for reflecting on the connections I still must make.

In that sadness and stillness of wings I ask for what will allow me calm, patience, time, energy, joy, space, love, passion...shhhhhhhhh. Only in the stillness do we hear. Only in the stillness do the wings prepare once again for flight.

I open up to the answers. I feel the wings of gratitude fluttering in my spirit as I connect back to my rhythm, my ritual, my daily gifts of joy.
